NOT AN ONLINE FESTIVAL, BUT…
The festival may have been cancelled, but we couldn’t let the weekend go by without bringing you a flavour of what you are missing. Each day this week we will post some music or memories to whet your appetite for (hopefully) 2021.

CHANT FOR IRISH SAINTS FROM GERMANY’S SCHOTTENKLÖSTER
Partnership Galway Early Music, Amra Project, and Nürnberg 2025/ SONGLINES
Ars Choralis Coeln (dir. Maria Jonas) & AMRA (dir. Dr Ann Buckley)
These two choirs were not able to come together in Galway this weekend, but here are some samples of the type of music you would have heard.
First, Ars Choralis Coeln, with a fabulous composition by Hildegard von Bingen.
And here are three Matins antiphons for the office of St Brigit, sung by members of Anuna who are partners in the Amra project. The Amra project, led by music historian Dr Ann Buckley at Trinity’s Medieval History Research Centre, is aiming to digitise and make freely available online over 300 manuscripts containing liturgical material associated with some 40 Irish saints which are located in research libraries across Europe. Enjoy this beautiful calming music for the time that’s in it. (More information on the Amra Project here.

Early Music Group of Kiili, Estonia
The Early Music Group of Kiili are a youth ensemble of very high quality. They were to perform at 11am in St Nicholas Church and also give a workshop to young musicians from Athenry Music School and Coole Music. They visited the festival in 2009 and we were so looking forward to seeing them again (some of the young musicians are still involved) in 2020.
