“There is geometry in the humming of the strings, there is music in the spacing of the spheres.” Pythagoras
The Galway Early Music Festival is live and hybrid in 2022 with a dazzling programme featuring music and the stars, the harmony of the planets in their orbits, the music of mathematics and geometry, music and art, and the music at the heart of the Universe!
We’re going full “STEAM” ahead this year and placing music and art at the centre of “STEM” (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), as it was from the time of Pythagoras right up to the Baroque era. The idea that the universe is based on harmony and proportion, and that this is expressed not only in the sciences of mathematics, geometry and astronomy, but also in music, opens a new way of experiencing the wonderful music of the medieval, renaissance and baroque eras.
We are so happy to that you will be able to join us in person for this year’s festival and look forward to seeing old friends and new in Galway in May. For those who can’t travel, many of our events will be hybrid. More news on that soon.
