Dr Catherine Emerson, storytelling, | Dr Matthew Thomson, storytelling with song
In a jubilee year a young woman begins to feel a bit under the weather, and starts to regret her sexual inexperience… In the fourth century, a philosopher berates an emperor for spending too much time with his wife… In fifteenth-century Champagne, a doctor prescribes a radical cure for a fatal illness…. While a thirteenth-century poet composes songs of seduction… The decisions these characters make may be morally dubious or undignified or just plain funny, but who is a modern audience to judge? In retelling these stories and singing these songs, we invite you to decide who to blame in a world where nobody is blameless.
