Teddie Hwang is a baroque flutist and a professional photographer who loves to watch, experience and photograph the night sky. We were thrilled that she was willing to be our poster person for 2022.
Flutist Teddie Hwang is fascinated by the timbre and vocal qualities of the baroque traverso. Based in Germany, she collaborates with a variety of ensembles, playing repertoire ranging from 17th century airs de cour to 19th century symphonies. In addition to the flute, Teddie is also a photographer specializing in portraiture for musicians. She creates each image like a musical composition with a specifc structure, emotion, and style.
A member of the International Dark Sky Association, she combines her musical performances with her works in landscape astrophotography to bring awareness of our natural night sky, a common heritage which connects us all.
During the festival, Teddie and Yonit Kosovske (harpsichord) give a multi-media concert, Discovering Light, combining beautiful baroque flute with Teddie's own photographs of the night sky on Friday 27 May. She Georgia MacMillan of Mayo Dark Sky Park will talk about music, the night sky and the importance of the Dark Sky movement around the world on Saturday 28 May.
Both events are live and online.
